“THE ONLY WAY TO ABOLISH WAR IS TO MAKE PEACE HEROIC.”

- John Dewey

A Guide to Green Building is a culmination of the extensive Green Building experience amongst our team and partners. The aim of this guide is to share what we have collected - to put the power and knowledge of green building in the hands of people who are committed to sustainable living.

In an age where humans can no longer consider our scarce resources as infinitely available, we must embrace responsibility toward radical sustainability and community stability.

From the very first considerations of a potential building site to construction, water, and power, this book is a brief but critical survey of what goes into the most essential aspects of green building. The information, techniques, and guidelines herein comprise a strong foundational body of knowledge that nearly any sufficiently motivated population can draw upon to build or rebuild their community. Using primarily natural and easily found materials, one can get to work creating a home or community with minimal training and what might normally be considered to be an impossibly small budget.

This guide is dedicated to thousands of volunteers, from all over the world, that make green building projects possible. This work is a collaboration between Long Way Home, Natural Building Collective, Dynegy, and Teach and Lead.
