Mid-Campus Tire Retaining Wall
The retaining wall is made of packed tires stacked in a running-bond pattern to maximize interlocking between courses.
Tires are filled with the earth taken out during the excavation stage, and non-biodegradable waste.
The space between the undisturbed soil and the tires is filled with sand. In order to drain, water goes through the sand before reaching a gravel trench at the bottom of the wall. A drainage pipe follows the slope of the trench and evacuates the water at the lower end of the retaining wall.
