Rubbish to runway 2022
Over the past dozen years, the Rubbish to Runway has been a fun way for supporters to get involved with Long Way Home.
As designers build out their outfits from recycled and upcycled materials they are reminded of the practical and artistic reuse of waste, just as Long Way Home repurposes waste into buildings.
Our audience appreciates the creativity, inspiration, and focus on action and sustainability that the show mirrors.

Why rubbish to runway?
-
reduce
The Fashion industry produces over 92 million tonnes of waste per year.
Since 2000, clothing sales doubled, but the average number of times an item was worn decreased by 36% overall!
-
reuse & recycle
Rubbish to Runway is Long Way Home’s annual (Re)Fashion show, and our main yearly fundraiser.
Complementing Long Way Home’s mission, it aims to alter people’s perceptions about trash, showing that it is also a resource that can be upcycled.
Trash can be functional and beautiful!
2022 Theme:
The four elements
Take Inspiration from the landscapes and natural phenomena of Guatemala!
Guatemala uniquely expresses the elements across the country. From the fiery volcanos, to the long cultivated earth, to the vast bodies of water, to the wind blown highlands, the elements give us the home land we know today.
With this theme, you can incorporate recyclable material from Guatemala (or your local area) to express the elements in some way. Be it the use of certain materials, a story telling design, or any other creative incorporation we are excited to see how you express the elements and utilize this year’s theme!
