(EN) This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work as a 3D rendering intern for Long Way Home. I really enjoyed this position, as I was able to see how the team was able to make things that seemed so “out-there” and far-reaching into a reality. It meant the world that I was able to contribute to Long Way Home’s amazing mission, but the fact that I got to see and learn how they did it surpassed my expectations on a whole different level.
The main way I would go about completing my work for LWH was flipping through the hundreds of pictures they would take of each project. As I was able to study the progressions of the projects from the real-life photographs, I was then able to draw them on a rendering software called SketchUp. This would then allow me to build/draw the various projects layer-by-layer, in a way that would hopefully help to make the green building process clearer and appear as achievable as it actually is.
As a civil engineering major and one who enjoys design and construction in general, it was awesome having access to all the pictures and blueprints to broaden my experiences and knowledge. If I had to say what the best parts of those pictures were though, the visuals of the crew completing cool processes such as turning old tires into walls of a house would not be my first answer. Instead, it would be all the real people and life, the pride, the joy, the teamwork that these photos were able to capture.
Apart from catching the building processes, these photographs were able to capture the amazing impact LWH has had on the growth of the communities and the empowerment brought to the people that inhibit them.
All parts of working with LWH were engaging and educational; but also, just truly inspiring. The pure and genuine smiles and confidence I would get to see each week when studying the pictures were encouraging and always changed my day for the better.
I am truly grateful for the time I spent working with LWH this summer and am hoping this is not the last time I cross paths with them. LWH has opened my eyes to the good that can be accomplished with some commitment, and with plans to graduate with a degree in Civil Engineering this spring, I expect to follow the path LWH helped me begin to form and see.
If you have an interest or skill that can help out Long Way Home, I say go for it. You really won’t regret it.
(ES) Este verano tuve la increíble oportunidad de trabajar como pasante de renderizado 3D para Long Way Home. Realmente disfruté de esta posición, ya que pude ver cómo el equipo era capaz de hacer realidad las cosas que parecían tan "fuera de lugar" y de gran alcance. Significó el mundo que pude contribuir a la increíble misión de Long Way Home, pero el hecho de que pude ver y aprender cómo lo hicieron superó mis expectativas a un nivel diferente.
Completaba mi trabajo en línea mi trabajo y conformaba de hojear los cientos de fotografías que tomarían de cada proyecto. Como pude estudiar las progresiones de los proyectos a partir de las fotografías de la vida real, pude dibujarlas en un software de renderizado llamado SketchUp. Sin embargo, si tuviera que decir cuáles eran las mejores partes de esas imágenes, las imágenes del equipo que completa procesos geniales, como convertir neumáticos viejos en paredes de una casa, no serían mi primera respuesta. En cambio, serían todas las personas reales y la vida, el orgullo, la alegría, el trabajo en equipo que estas fotos pudieron capturar.
Además de captar los procesos de construcción, estas fotografías fueron capaces de capturar el impacto asombroso que LWH ha tenido en el crecimiento de las comunidades y el empoderamiento brindado a las personas que las inhiben.
Todas las partes del trabajo con LWH fueron atractivas y educativas; pero también, realmente inspirador. Las sonrisas y la confianza puras y genuinas que veía cada semana al estudiar las imágenes eran alentadoras y siempre cambiaron mi día para mejor.
Estoy realmente agradecida por el tiempo que pasé trabajando con LWH este verano y espero que esta no sea la última vez que me cruce con ellos. LWH me ha abierto los ojos al bien que se puede lograr con cierto compromiso, y con planes para graduarme con un título en Ingeniería Civil esta primavera, espero seguir el camino que LWH me ayudó a comenzar a formar y ver.
Si tiene un interés o habilidad que pueda ayudar a Long Way Home, lhazlo. Realmente no te arrepentirás.
